Terms of Use
Last updated: May 2026
This legal page is currently provided in English.
These Terms of Use explain the rules for using the WorththeRide website and app.
By using WorththeRide, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you should not use the service.
WorththeRide is a surf decision-support service. It helps users compare surf conditions, rider context, travel effort and nearby alternatives. It does not guarantee surf quality, safety, water quality, travel conditions or whether you should enter the water.
1. Who we are
WorththeRide provides the website and app described in these Terms.
In these Terms, "WorththeRide", "WtR", "we", "us" and "our" refer to the WorththeRide service.
For questions about these Terms, contact:
2. What WorththeRide does
WtR helps users make practical surf decisions by combining available forecast information, spot context, rider settings, travel effort and nearby alternatives.
WtR may provide outputs such as:
- surf condition summaries;
- Worth the Ride verdicts;
- surf quality scores;
- confidence indicators;
- explanations and watchouts;
- spot information;
- saved spots;
- saved sessions;
- planned sessions;
- useful links to external services.
WtR is designed to support decision-making. It is not a safety system, emergency service, professional coaching service, lifeguard service, travel service, weather warning service or guarantee of conditions.
3. Decision-support only
WtR provides decision-support information only.
A WtR verdict such as "Worth it", "Borderline" or "Not worth it" is an app-generated recommendation based on the information available at the time. It is not a guarantee that conditions will be good, safe, suitable or unchanged when you arrive.
You remain responsible for your own decisions, including whether to travel, paddle out, enter the water, continue surfing or leave the water.
Always check live conditions, official warnings, local signs, flags, lifeguard advice, local knowledge and your own ability before surfing.
4. Surfing and ocean risks
Surfing and entering the ocean involve real-world risks.
These may include, but are not limited to:
- changing waves, wind, tides and currents;
- rocks, reefs, sandbanks and submerged objects;
- rip currents;
- shorebreak;
- crowds and collisions;
- changing weather;
- poor visibility;
- cold water;
- pollution or water-quality issues;
- beach closures;
- lack of lifeguards;
- travel hazards;
- equipment failure;
- injury or death.
WtR cannot remove or fully predict these risks.
Local knowledge beats any forecast. When in doubt, do not paddle out.
5. Forecasts, data and local conditions
WtR uses forecast and marine-condition information from third-party data providers, including Open-Meteo, and may also use spot profiles, tide information, water-quality references, facility information, useful links and other app-supported context.
Forecasts and app outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, delayed, unavailable or different from other forecast services.
Forecast providers and models can differ because they may use different:
- data sources;
- model grids;
- forecast points;
- update schedules;
- definitions of wave height, swell, period, wind or tide;
- local assumptions.
Conditions can also change quickly between the time a forecast is generated, the time WtR displays a result and the time you arrive at the beach.
WtR does not guarantee:
- wave height;
- surf quality;
- tide timing accuracy;
- wind conditions;
- water quality;
- beach safety;
- lifeguard presence;
- crowd levels;
- access or parking;
- facility availability;
- travel time;
- exact spot behaviour;
- that a forecast or recommendation will match what you experience in the water.
6. Rider settings and personal responsibility
WtR may use rider settings such as skill level, surf preferences, preferred wave size, travel preferences or location context.
You are responsible for entering accurate information and judging whether conditions are suitable for you.
WtR cannot assess your actual ability, fitness, confidence, equipment, experience, judgement, health, local knowledge or ability to handle changing conditions.
A result that appears suitable for a skill level does not mean it is safe for every surfer in that category.
If you are unsure, choose the safer option, ask a qualified instructor or local lifeguard, or do not enter the water.
7. Water quality, facilities and practical information
WtR may show water-quality context, facilities, amenities, useful links or other practical spot information.
This information may be incomplete, unavailable, static, delayed, manually reviewed, third-party sourced or subject to change.
Water quality may change quickly because of rain, discharge, pollution, runoff, local incidents or official advisories. Missing or unavailable water-quality information does not mean the water is safe.
Before swimming or surfing, check local signs, official water-quality sources, lifeguards, local authorities and live conditions.
For beaches in Portugal, this may include checking local beach signage, lifeguard information, municipal or official sources, and any notices displayed at the beach.
Facilities such as parking, toilets, showers, accessibility, lifeguards or Blue Flag status may change or be unavailable. WtR does not guarantee facility availability.
8. Travel and nearby alternatives
WtR may consider travel effort, approximate distance, location context or nearby alternatives.
Travel-related information is for decision support only. WtR is not a navigation, transport, route-planning or travel-safety service.
You are responsible for checking routes, roads, weather, parking, access restrictions, fuel, transport options and any other travel requirements before leaving.
Nearby alternatives are suggestions based on available app information. They are not guarantees that another spot will be better, safer, accessible or suitable.
9. Accounts and guest use
Some WtR features may be available without an account.
Guest use may store information locally in your browser, such as rider settings, saved spots, saved sessions or planned sessions. Local browser data may not sync across devices and may be lost if you clear browser storage, change device, use another browser, use private browsing, or if your browser or device removes local storage.
When account features are available, you may be able to create an account to save information across devices.
You are responsible for:
- keeping your login details secure;
- providing accurate account information;
- not sharing access in a way that misuses the service;
- telling us if you believe your account has been compromised.
We may suspend or restrict account access if we reasonably believe there has been misuse, security risk, breach of these Terms or unlawful activity.
10. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how WtR collects, uses, stores and shares information.
By using WtR, you acknowledge that your information may be handled as described in the Privacy Policy.
The Privacy Policy is separate from these Terms.
11. Acceptable use
You must use WtR lawfully and responsibly.
You must not:
- use WtR in a way that breaks applicable law;
- interfere with the service or attempt to disrupt it;
- attempt to access systems, accounts, data or areas you are not authorised to access;
- scrape, crawl, copy or extract data from WtR without permission;
- reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to derive source code except where permitted by law;
- overload, attack or test the security of the service without permission;
- submit false, misleading, harmful, abusive or unlawful content;
- impersonate another person or organisation;
- use WtR to create a competing service by copying app data, outputs, design, scoring or content;
- use WtR in a way that harms other users, the service, third-party providers or the public.
We may restrict, suspend or block access where we reasonably believe these Terms have been breached.
12. User feedback, notes and local corrections
WtR may allow users to save notes, submit feedback, report mistakes, suggest missing beaches, correct facilities, report broken links or share local surf knowledge.
You are responsible for anything you submit.
Do not submit content that is unlawful, abusive, defamatory, invasive of privacy, misleading, confidential, infringing, unsafe or not yours to share.
By sending feedback, corrections, suggestions or local knowledge to WtR, you allow us to review, edit, use and incorporate that information to improve the service. You agree that we may use that feedback or local correction information without payment to you, while respecting any privacy obligations that apply. This does not mean that every suggestion will be accepted or published.
Raw feedback does not automatically change scoring, spot data or surf recommendations. Corrections may require review.
Session notes and personal feedback may be treated differently from public/local correction suggestions. Do not include sensitive personal information unless necessary.
13. Intellectual property
WtR, including its name, branding, design, interface, text, scoring approach, explanations, content, code, data structure and other materials, is owned by or licensed to WtR unless stated otherwise.
You may use WtR for your own personal surf-decision support.
You must not copy, reproduce, sell, modify, distribute, publish, scrape, resell or build derivative products from WtR content or functionality without permission, except where allowed by law.
Third-party data, images, links, icons, fonts or other materials may be subject to their own licences and terms.
14. Third-party services and links
WtR may use or link to third-party services, including forecast providers, beach cameras, official information sources, water-quality references, map services, social platforms, payment providers, support services and other useful links.
External links are provided for convenience and context.
WtR does not control, endorse or accept responsibility for third-party websites, services, content, forecasts, availability, security, privacy practices or terms.
If you use third-party services, you do so under their own terms and privacy policies.
15. Payments, donations, subscriptions and support features
Payment, donation, subscription or support features may be made available in the future.
If paid or support features are introduced, the relevant price, billing period, renewal terms and key conditions should be shown before payment where applicable.
Payments will be handled by third-party payment providers. WtR does not directly store full payment card details.
Some support payments or donations may be voluntary and may not create any entitlement to extra features unless clearly stated.
Your statutory rights are not affected.
16. Availability and changes to the service
WtR may change over time.
We may add, remove, suspend, limit or change features, pages, spots, data sources, providers, recommendations, scores, explanations or account functionality.
We may do this for reasons including:
- improving the product;
- fixing bugs;
- updating data sources;
- improving safety or reliability;
- legal, commercial or operational reasons;
- preventing misuse;
- provider changes or outages.
WtR may be unavailable, interrupted, delayed or inaccurate. We do not guarantee that the service will always be available or error-free.
17. Beta, testing and product development
WtR may include features that are new, experimental, being tested or still improving.
Surf recommendations, spot profiles, water-quality displays, useful links, saved sessions, planned sessions, saved spots, account features and analytics may change as the product develops.
You should not rely on WtR as your only source of information when making surf, safety, travel or water-entry decisions.
18. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we do not guarantee that:

19. Liability
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or any rights that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
Subject to that, WtR is not responsible for losses, injury, damage or costs arising from:
- your decision to travel, surf, swim or enter the water;
